Size guide

All our traditionally shaped berets come with a calfskin headband, which determines the size of the piece.
Most of our berets are available in S, M and L, which cover most head sizes.
Find the right size for you according to your head circumference in the table below.

If you are between 2 sizes, we advise you to choose the bigger one; your beret will be more comfortable to wear.
What if you do not know your head circumference? No need to panic; we will explain all.

How to measure your head circumference?

Head circumference is measured from the forehead, around 1–2cm above the eyebrows, around the widest part at the back of the head.

Col

Col : the outer diameter of the beret, also known as the plateau. The col is measured in inches, from 9 to 11.
The choice of col (9, 10, 11 inches) depends on the wearer’s face shape and size:

  • for a slimmer person with a thinner face, 9 or 10 maximum is ideal
  • for a larger person with a rounder face, 10 or 11 is better

History : The Basque Beret is a corner stone for the Maison Laulhère. An emblematic and timeless accessory of French elegance, it has been worn by film stars, shepherds, revolutionaries, jazzmen, sportsmen, princesses and strangers alike. A combination of ancestral know-how and modernity, the Basque beret is waterproof, insulating, odourless and UV-resistant.

Materials: 
  • 100% virgin merino wool base, knitted and felted in our workshops at the foot of the French Pyrenees.
  • 60% acetate and 40% viscose lining.
  • Full grain cowhide leather headband.
  • Satin interior.
  • 100% cotton badge.
  • CLEANING :

Machine washing, hand washing and dry cleaning are excluded for felted merino virgin wool. In case of stains, sponge with absorbent paper and clean with a soft brush or a natural sponge soaked in warm water and Marseille soap, avoiding excessively wetting the beret and the leather brim. To dry, always lay the beret flat, with a paper inside, in the open air but away from light to preserve its original shape and color. Never dry your beret on a heat source.

Tip: To refresh your beret, apply a little dry shampoo, let it dry for a few moments and then brush.

  • BRUSHING, DUSTING :

The felted merino wool is a material with exceptional qualities. However, it easily captures dust, textile fibers and animal hair. We therefore recommend the use of an adhesive textile brush.

Tip: Lightly moisten the palm of your hand and gently rub the surface of your beret in circles, the dust will then form a ball that you only have to remove to find a clean beret.

To best protect your beret, it is recommended that you store it in a mothproof bag or use a cedar ball after each use.
